Snow Driving Tips - Part 1 - Car Preparation:

Mother natures is a little early this year, so we're keeping pace with our annual snow driving tips. So, before you hit the road Jack: Tires: Whatever your car produces (AWD, 4WD, horsepower, braking, steering, abs, traction control, stability control), all is transferred to the road via the tires. With marginal tires you may only get a fraction of your braking power, or your ABS, or 4wd, etc.

All season tires are designed to be a compromise between summer driving and winter conditions, but in our climate you are giving up a lot of traction with all season tires. A 2WD car with good snow tires will work better than a 4WD/AWD car with bad tires.

Before starting to drive, clear ALL windows and mirrors & lights Don’t forget the roof – the first time you brake that snow tends to end up on your windshield, sometimes at the worst moment.

Make sure you have a good battery and that your charging system is in good shape. Have a winter kit or box in your trunk: brush & scraper, shovel, sand, gloves, blanket, warm cloth, jumper cables, flashlight. RWD cars and RWD trucks even if you can put them into 4WD are not as grippy. If you can, put any weight over the rear wheels that will help a lot, such as sand bags, even a truck topper will help the weight distribution.
